DENTAL BRIDGES

A bridge is a durable option for replacing one or more missing teeth. If you do regular dental check-ups and maintain good oral hygiene, including brushing and using a dental floss threader, a bridge usually lasts 10 years or longer.

It is important to replace a missing tooth/teeth to prevent the remaining teeth from shifting or tilting which in turn may cause further problems such as the loss of a remaining teeth surrounding the space and gum issues. Missing teeth can also improper pronunciation and/or lead to digestive issues.

The bridge, made as one element, replaces one or two missing in-between two natural teeth that serve as anchors for the false tooth/teeth. Bridges can be fixed to natural teeth or over dental implants. Dental bridges are also referred to as fixed bridges or fixed dental prothesis.

A bridge allows to:

Replace one or more missing teeth;

Improve pronunciation and chewing;

Fill the space between teeth;

Prevent premature wear by removing extra pressure on remaining teeth that have to compensate for the missing tooth/teeth.

Two appointments are necessary when acquiring a bridge. The dentist prepares the contour of the teeth that will hold the bridge in place then takes an impression (mould) that he sends to a dental lab that will make the bridge. At the end of the first appointment your dentist will place a temporary bridge over the prepared teeth. During the second appointment, the dentist will cement your custom made bridge in place.
