Gingivitis is a mild inflammation of the gums. It is usually caused by plaque and tartar build-up between the teeth and the gums. It may also be influenced by heredity cigarettes or poor oral hygiene. Gingivitis can be detected since the gums are red, swollen, bleed or are sensitive though sometimes none of the above visible signs of the disease are present.
Gingivitis is reversible and must be treated to avoid increased inflammation and the onset of periodontitis
